Cooking can promote bonding between family members or can be a team-building exercise with your colleagues: this is the mantra of Foodology, a start-up cooking boutique, which guarantees discovery of the joy of cooking.
Shree Periakaruppan, founder of Foodology, says the concept of recreational cooking that is prevalent in the U.S. has been modified to suit the city’s tastes, which are supposed to be conservative in nature. She says: “The idea is to take cooking beyond the boundaries of a household chore and to show it can be used as an educational and bond-building exercise.”
The cooking studio, located in Adyar, has a line-up of star chefs, including Tasneem Ayub, BeeBee Martinet (who runs Bee’s Kopitiam), Preethi Venkataramani and Kamalika Krishmy (winner of Super Chef Chennai 2013).
Ms. Periakaruppan has worked out the cooking programmes that cater to various age groups, from three-year-olds to adults. Some of the programmes like the ‘Daddy and Me’, ‘Date Nights’ and corporate culinary events are touted as fun activities.
As part of the children’s programme, training is given in measuring, mixing, knife skills and preparation of dishes.
Talking about the ‘Date Nights’ option, she says: “The programme is meant to give couples an opportunity to enjoy their individual time in the ‘kitchen’, preparing dishes in a relaxed manner.”
Ms. Periakaruppan has plans to take the concept to other parts of the city by opening more branches.
