Mosters make their debut in Kollywood

Motion poster, which is an animated poster, marks a huge milestone in the digitisation of film publicity

Walls and hoardings are not the only spots anymore to announce a new film.

Digitisation has entered the realm of posters too. ‘Aaaah , which as the name suggests, is a horror film, already has motion posters to reach out to viewers on a digital platform.

A motion poster or a moster, which is an animated poster, is a relatively new concept for Tamil films. “We chose mosters to help the audience understand the mood of the film better. Our first moster released recently has a skull forming into the Tamil alphabet Aah,” says Haresh, who is sharing director credits with Hari. The duo have come together after ‘Ambuli 3D’ and ‘Orr Eravuu.’

“The next moster will show two boats in the mid sea, giving viewers the feeling of floating. We will include sound effects in the upcoming mosters,” he adds. The film is probably the first Tamil horror anthology with five plots set in different places, including Japan and an ATM in a remote place in Tamil Nadu. “We chose to experiment, presenting a variety of themes in one film,” says Haresh.

The plot revolves around three friends who set out on a journey. The film with a star cast, including Gokulnath, Simhaa and a debutant actor Meghna, is slated to release in July.

Actor-director R. Parthiban seems to have realised that a confession has to be part of one’s new life.

And before launching his new venture, he has made a confession, thus denying critics an opportunity to comment on his storyline. And his catch line is this: A film without a story. Named ‘Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam’, the trailer of this film promises some quirky moments. To add to it, Parthiban has managed to rope in some big names to do extended cameos.

The list includes Amala Paul, Arya, Prakash Raj, Taapsee Pannu, Vijay Sethupathy, Vishal, Cheran and Sivakarthikeyan. The film is nearing completion, according to the grapevine.

Debutant director Ranjit Jeyakodi’s venture ‘Mellisai’ is now waiting for some cloud cover. “We have about 10 -12 days of shooting remaining and till now, we have shot only in Chennai. Since we are in the midst of summer, we are looking for a locale with clouds and a slight drizzle. One more song remains to be shot,” says the director, whose crew is working for the audio release of the film next month.

The film was named Mellisai (meaning melody) since the hero, Vijay Sethupathi, plays a music album director and the heroine, Gayathrie, a violin teacher.

Their friends too are musicians. “Since a melody is something that you want to listen again and again, we wanted the film too to be something you can watch repeatedly,” says the director, who is also waiting for Vijay Sethupathi’s call-sheet. The music for the film is by Sam C.S., whom Ranjit Jeyakodi chose as “his music was a mix of both Raja sir and Rahman Sir. We had already worked on a couple of songs for this film. Sam has worked on music jingles for TV channels,” he says.

Ranjit Jeyakodi, a native of Theni, who completed his visual communication degree from Loyola College, says he wanted to become a director when he was still in college.

He also worked as an associate to director Ram of ‘Thanga Meengal’ fame.
