Apparently, Deepika Padukone is watching a lot of Tamil films these days to learn the language or to at least learn a few important words as soon as possible. We hear it’s not for Kochadaiyaan . It’s for Chennai Express , in which she plays a Tamil-speaking girl paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan. And, her interest in ‘mastering’ the language is believed to be at the behest of King Khan! Dancing to his own tune!
After Paradesi, music director G.V. Prakash Kumar completed work for Bharathiraja’s Annakkodiyum (earlier A nnakkodiyum Kodiveeranum ). More importantly, the young composer made music for director Vijay’s Thalaivaa , and has also shaken a leg for one of the numbers ‘Vanakkanna Vanakkanganna’, along with actors Vijay and Santhanam. Rumour has it that Prakash is testing the waters to see if he can take off as a hero in a movie. Incidentally, he turned producer recently with Madha Yaanaikkoottam .
Cross-border entertainment
A lot of movies today cross borders. Here’s one more to that list. Director P. Vasu has been approached by an NRI to direct a film in English. The film Curry In Love has an impressive international cast that includes Anil Kapoor, Tina Fey, Amanda Seyfried, Nic Nolte and John Voight. Vasu says, “The film’s script is nearly over. The U.S.-based producer has asked me for something on the lines of Chandramukhi — a fine blend of drama, romance, sentiment and ‘spirits’.” A little birdie tells us the director is in talks with actors Vijay and Sonam Kapoor for the lead.
