It is a fact that Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has an eye for spotting talent. (Remember Urmila Matondkar and Antara Mali?) When Anaika ran into RGV, he popped the question, “Would you like to act in films?” Says Anaika: “I come from a family which is into construction and diamond trading. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d enter films. RGV was persistent and when he said he was making Satya 2 , both mom and I relented. Satya is one of my favourite movies and I knew Satya 2 would become another landmark film. Satya 2 is being made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.” Besides Satya 2, Anaika has signed up for director Vasanthabalan’s Kaaviya Thalaivan with Siddharth and Prithviraj as the heroes. “I am making a sincere effort to learn the languages to understand the dialogues better,” says Anaika.

A six-song pack

After learning the ropes assisting director M. Rajesh ( All in All Azhaguraja, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi ), I. Rajasekaran has decided to wield the megaphone independently for Ya Ya , a romantic comedy featuring Shiva, Santhanam, Dhansika and Sandhya. The music, to be released tomorrow, is said to be a major highlight of Ya Ya . Music director Vijay Ebenezer says, “There are six songs in the film, of which one is being used for the promo and it will appear as the credits roll by. There are two duets — one is in folksy style while the other has a western feel. Then there is a song on love failure, one on friendship and another with competition as its theme. All the songs are in line with the story and are sung by Ranjit, Karthik, Krish, Suchitra, Rahul Nambiar, M. L. Karthikeyan and Srivats,” says Vijay.

Surprises in store

Balu Anand, who has directed films such as Annanagar Mudhal Theru, Naane Raja Naane Manthiri and Unakkaga Piranthein , is coming up with Sandhithathum Sindhithathum , starring Sathya and Yudasha. “On many occasions, our plans fail to materialise. Unexpected things happen, taking us by surprise. Sandhithathum Sindhithathum is on those lines. It is based on a real-life incident that took place in Bangalore and Namakkal. Usually, the screenplay ensures a seamless continuation of scenes — when you watch a scene you know what will follow. But, in this film, the unexpected always happens,” says Babu Anand.

High on comedy

Known for spotting talent and encouraging films with unique scripts, Gautam Vasudev Menon is reportedly happy with the progress of Thanga Meengal and Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum , being produced under his Photon Kathaas banner. The latter is directed by Premsai, a former associate of Prabhu Deva. Gautam is quite impressed with Prem’s script, clarity of thought and his ability to translate it on screen, as well as his ease of handling the Tamil and Telugu versions. Jai is paired with Yami Gautam. Santhanam and VTV Ganesh provide the laughs. In addition, there are powerful performers such as Ashuthosh Rana, Nasser and Thambi Ramiah. “It is a comedy with an ample dose of romance,” says Gautam.
