From playing chocolate boy roles to macho characters, Jayam Ravi has transformed into an actor of substance over the years. His action scenes in Peraanmai were well-appreciated. N. Kalyanakrishnan, Peraanmai director S. P. Jhananathan’s associate, has cast Ravi in Aascar Films’ Bhooloham, as a boxer. Set in North Chennai where the ‘boxing’ tradition is said to be alive and kicking, the film is the result of considerable research done by Kalyanakrishnan. Paired with Ravi is the talented Trisha in a totally different role. A highlight of Bhooloham will be the action sequence involving Ravi and Hollywood actor Nathan Jones.

Killadi is ready

Director A. Venkatesh is gearing up for the release of his 18th film Killadi, after his last film, the Arjun-starrer Vallakottai (2011). “I took a one-year sabbatical from direction to try my hand at acting,” says Venkatesh. His Killadi stars Bharath and Nila. “There’s Roja in an action-oriented negative role which is bound to leave a lasting impression on the viewers. Another important part of the film is Vivek’s comedy. We had a 15-day discussion on his role to make it more effective. Killadi will be a romantic action film with a difference. Though the hero and the heroine don’t overtly express their love, the audience will be able to perceive the chemistry. And we have Kanal Kannan and Super Subbarayan to take care of the action sequences,” says Venkatesh.

Two more in Vikram’s kitty

Any actor would have preferred a glamorous role for his debut, but not Vikram Prabhu. Coming from a family of actors, he knew well that a good director like Prabhu Solomon could present him as an actor of substance. Well, Kumki was different from Solomon’s highly successful Mynaa, but Vikram’s performance as a mahout was noticed and he has signed up two more films. In director Saravanan’s Ivan Veramathiri, a romantic thriller, Vikram plays an angry young man, while in director Gaurav’s Sigaram Thodu, he plays a boy next door. The latter being a city-based subject, the audience can expect to see Vikram in a modern look.
