Listening to Nadamuni Gayatri Bharath at Chennai Cultural Academy, after an interregnum, this writer found quite a lot of maturity in her music. Her talented musicality and sparkling technique were evident through the concert, in particular in her magnificent elucidation of Simhendramadhyamam. She is blessed with a sweet, echoing voice. Her pronunciation is so precise that one can write down the composition. Her apt selection of songs kept the audience fully alert. She deserves the prime slot. Are you listening, Mr. Lion Natarajan?
The concert gained a lot from the accompanists. Kovai Chandran (violin) was splendid in the alapana and kalpanaswaras, especially in Nattakurinji. Manikkudi Chandrasekar, the redoubtable mridangam genius, enriched the entire concert with his expertise. He made the mridangam sing!
