The 19th Annual Bharathi Festival will be celebrated this year on December 9, 10 and 11 at the Bharathi Memorial in T.P. Koil Street, Triplicane.

The event marks the birth anniversary of the legendary Tamil poet Subramanya Bharathi. Programmes for the day include a day-long renditions of Bharathi’s songs, speeches, competitions in dance, debate and trivia on the poet’s life and work.

On the morning of Devember 11, Jathi Palakku, a palanquin procession of Bharathi’s idol, will be taken out. That evening, the Bharathi Award will be conferred.

This year’s Bharathi Awardee is veteran playback singer Vani Jayaram, who has sung in all 18 languages referred to by Bharathi himself. Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna will present the award. Filmmaker K. Balachander will felicitate the awardee.
