A child prodigy, she has had the rare distinction of performing before kings, Presidents and Prime Ministers across the globe since 1956. And even after 65 years as a dancer, Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy continues to be as zealous and dedicated about her art.

Sudharani, who studied Bharatanatyam under various gurus such as U. S. Krishna Rao, K. P. Kittappa Pillai and Mylapore Gowri Amma, is also proficient in Carnatic music.

An artist of calibre, Sudharani, has over the years, groomed many dancers at her school, Shree Bharatalaya. Her choreographic presentations such as ‘Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum’, ‘Shakti Prabhavam,’ ‘Ekameva Na Dvayam’ and ‘Shankara Loka Shankara’ have won applause all over the world. Her series for Doordarshan ‘Bharatanjali’, the first of its kind, was one of her major contributions to Bharatanaytam.
