Sumanth and Co. will present a contemporary classical Bharatanatyam recital titled “Na Maargam – Knot the path,” at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan on December 19.

Conceptualized by danseuse Sudharani Raghupathy, the recital promises to enhance the intensely classical Thanjavur style of Bharatanatyam, with high production values, particularly in lighting design and stagecraft. Four senior disciples of Raghupathy – Priya Murle, Krithika Subrahmanian, Priya S. Dixit and Prabha Dixit – will perform, from 5 p.m. onwards. The show is also supported by an original sound-scape created on 16-track digital technology.

Inspiration

Na Maargam encompasses the original compositions – tillanas, jatiswarams, varnams, javalis, padams – of Padma Bhushan Madurai N. Krishnan, a modern day vaggeyakara , who has the distinction of composing several Margams – encapsulated in concert, from the introductory piece to the final mangalam .
