‘Champion of Humanity’ awards given

City-based businessman S. Abhaya Kumar, managing director of Shasun Pharmaceuticals, was conferred the ‘Champion of Humanity’ award for his excellence in business management, by the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Commemorating ‘Chamber Day,’ members of the organisation also awarded K.M. Cherian, chairman, Frontier Lifeline Hospital, the ‘Champion of Humanity’ award for his contribution to society.

Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah, who was the chief guest, said the chamber’s focus on the revival of the economy, fast-tracking infrastructure and improved governance deserved appreciation. Projecting a positive image of business and assisting industry to identify and execute corporate citizenship programmes are imperative, he said.

The Chamber, which was founded in 1945, has been honouring two distinguished personalities every year since 2002 for their contribution to business and humanity.
