Six women from various localities were robbed

A spree of chain snatching incidents in the northern part of the city on Thursday saw women losing 48.5 sovereigns. Three cases occurred while the victims were chatting with neighbours in front of their houses.

Sureeka Bheevi (50) was talking to her neighbour near her house on Vellaiyudam street in Nedhuchezhian Nagar in Tondiarpet, while waiting for her husband to pick her up on the way to a wedding. A duo in a bike drove by and snatched her 13-sovereign chain.

Another victim, S. Manjula (64) too lost her 6-sovereign chain in front of her house in Ellaiya Mudali street in Tondiarpet. A case has been filed by the Tondiarpet police. K. Mahalakshmi (45) endured a similar plight as she too lost a 15-sovereign chain in VOC Nagar. She was also the victim of a duo on a bike.

S. Deviyani (43), a resident of New Washermenpet, was returning home after shopping when two men on a bike stole six sovereigns from her. Cases have been filed at the New Washermepet police station.

Two other women were victims of attention diversion. K. Thiripurasundari (64) of Kasimanagar and G. Ponnmari (45) of Vasantham Nagar in Kaladipettai were relaxing in front of their houses when a teenager approached them and sought the details of an address.

As the women were busy giving directions, the teenager snatched the chains. Thirupurasundari lost a 5.5 sovereign gold chain while Ponnmari lost three sovereigns.
