MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Thursday alleged that the Centre was planning to close the green tribunals across the country to stifle dissenting voices.

In an informal chat with reporters at the Tiruchi airport, he said that during his appearance before the National Green Tribunal’s southern bench in connection with the Neduvasal hydrocarbon project, he had come to understand that the Centre was not at all in favour of the green tribunals.

The Centre was planning to close them to thwart protests against various projects affecting the environment.
