Two women allegedly stole four diamond bangles worth several lakh rupees from a jewellery shop on Cathedral Road here on Friday. The shop authorities have identified the suspects with the help of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage.

According to police sources, the women came to the shop in an autorickshaw at 2.30 p.m. on Friday as prospective buyers. After diverting the attention of the salesperson, they stole the bangles and escaped. Besides diamonds, the bangles had gold weighing 690 gm.

A couple of hours later, shop manager Srinath realised the theft and lodged a complaint with the Teynampet police.

“The visuals show one of the women concealing the bangles in her dress. We have sent their photograph to all police stations in the city and suburbs. Steps are being taken to send the images to all police stations in the State through the Crime Record Bureau,” Inspector of Police (Crime) S. Gunasekaran said.

Forensic experts lifted fingerprints from the scene of crime and investigators are comparing the same with those of the employees.

“After getting clearance from the Police Commissioner, we intend to send the photograph of the suspects to neighbouring States,” he added.
