‘CBI probe in DSP murder case, a black mark on government’

July 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK leader M. Karunanidhi on Sunday said the order of the Madras High Court transferring the investigation in the alleged suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vishnu Priya was another black mark against the AIADMK government.

In a statement here, he also recalled his demand for a CBI probe when the family members of Vishnu Priya called on him. Mr. Karunanidhi said the order of the High Court was a condemnation of the State government since Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the Assembly rejected former minister E.V. Velu’s demand for a CBI inquiry.

“Ms. Jayalalithaa who publicised the financial assistance to kin of policemen who were killed while performing their duty did not even express her condolence for the death of Vishnu Priya. The demand for CBI inquiry gained momentum since she was forced to take an extreme step to escape the harassment of senior police officers,” he alleged. Mr. Karunanidhi said though he criticised the police in the murder of Infosys employee Swathi, he appreciated the officers who cracked the case.
