Catering vehicle hits parked aircraft

Vehicle hit wingtip of aircraft parked in bay; following accident, the Air India aircraft was grounded

An in-flight catering vehicle hit the wingtip of a parked Air India aircraft in bay 22 at Chennai airport on Sunday morning.

Following the accident, the aircraft has been grounded.

Airport sources said the Air India flight AA570 came to the bay at the terminal around 8.45 a.m.

The in-flight catering vehicle of Oberoi Flight Kitchen was coming in to the nearby bay for a Jet Airways flight, around 9 a.m., when it hit the wingtip of the Air India aircraft.

Air India sources said following the accident, the aircraft, a Boeing 319, which was to fly to Bangalore, was grounded.

The national carrier arranged an alternative aircraft for the passengers, the sources added.
