The Achirapakkam police have registered a case against 20 workers of a toll plaza at Thozhupedu on the Grand Southern Trunk Road based on intimation received from a police outpost at Rajaji Government Hospital, Madurai.

According to the police, the complainant Malik of Chennai was on the way to Madurai along with his friends – Rajasekar and Vanamaamalai – in a car on January 14. When the car was stopped at the Thozhupedu Toll Plaza for payment of toll fee, a toll plaza worker placed one of his legs on the vehicle and collected the fee, which was objected to by Malik and his friends. Irked by the objection, a group of workers attacked Malik and his friends causing injuries on them.

Upon reaching Madurai, Malik, Rajasekar and Vanamaamalai got themselves admitted at the Rajaji Government Hospital, Madurai and lodged a complaint against the Thozhupedu Toll Plaza workers at the hospital police outpost. Subsequently, the complaint was forwarded to Achirapakkam police on Sunday and a case registered.
