An episode of road rage unfolded on Tiruvottiyur Main Road on Sunday and ended in a 26-year-old MTC bus driver sustaining injuries.

The incident took place around 8.15 a.m. on Sunday when MTC driver S. Ravindran (26) was behind the wheel of a bus on route 56C (Minjur-Broadway). At Washermenpet, on Tiruvottiyur Main Road, he attempted to overtake the staff bus of a private company (MRF).

However, the driver of the private bus, Ramesh Vina (28), a resident of Madhavaram, did not make way for the MTC bus. The private bus was empty and going towards Ambattur while the MTC bus had nearly 30 passengers in it.

Angered, Ravindran accelerated and overtook the private vehicle, and stopped in front of it. He jumped out of the driver’s seat and made his way to the private bus. Even as confused passengers and other motorists looked on, Ravindran got into the other bus and hit Vina.

“Traffic was blocked on Tiruvottiyur Main Road for nearly an hour because of the incident,” said a police officer attached to the Washermenpet police.

In the ensuing scuffle, Ravindran sustained injuries on his neck after he was pushed by Vina and hit the mirror near the driver’s seat.

When he began to bleed, a few passengers and onlookers rushed Ravindran to the Government Stanley Hospital. His condition is stable, a doctor said.

A case has been filed against Vina by the Washermenpet police.
