Unidentified men broke into a fruit shop in Koyambedu market on Sunday night and stole nearly Rs. 4.5 lakh.

According to the police, Subramani of N.S.K. Nagar in Arumbakkam runs the shop. On Sunday, he had made good sales due to celebrations for Vinayaka Chaturthi on Monday. After closing business, he kept the money inside a locker. His relative Thyagarajan was sleeping inside the shop and two workers were sleeping outside.

On Monday, around 3 a.m., Thyagarajan found the locker lying outside the shop. It was broken and the money was missing.

The police suspect the images of the burglars would have been captured on the CCTV camera installed on the premises.
