The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority on Wednesday locked and sealed two buildings in T. Nagar.
According to a CMDA release, the building bearing old no. 18, new no. 43 on Mannar Street was locked and sealed on Wednesday under the provisions of sections 56 and 57 of Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.
The owner had obtained planning permission on January 24, 2011, from the Chennai Corporation for construction of stilt-plus-two floors of a restaurant with four dwelling units. CMDA later found that the owner had constructed ground floor-plus-three floors, deviating from the approved plan. The owner has also tried to construct additional dwelling units by raising columns.
As part of efforts to check unauthorised constructions in Chennai metropolitan area, CMDA issued a notice to the developer on September 7, 2012.
But the developer failed to remove the unauthorised portions and continued to construct a commercial building, in violation of the approved plan. The deviations include violations pertaining to building dimension, set back and unauthorised ground floor.
Another building on the same street was also sealed.
