Staff of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority on Wednesday placed an unauthorised building being built in Seven Wells area under lock and seal for gross violation of rules.

A note from the CMDA said the owner of the building under construction had applied to Chennai Corporation for constructing only a two-storey building on Subramaniya Mudali Street, Seven Wells. However, the builder had constructed ground-plus-four floors in complete violation of the rules.

Following a direction from the Madras High Court, the Chennai Corporation issued a notice to the building owner.

Subsequently, the staff on Wednesday placed the building under ‘lock and seal’ as per provisions of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971.
