BSNL has warned subscribers against being defrauded by persons posing as its employees and taking money against false promises of facilitating rental discounts.

In a statement, BSNL Chennai Telephones said it had come to the knowledge of its office that customers were being approached by dubious persons posing as employees of BSNL on the pretext of getting rental discounts under senior citizens category or arranging for refund of telephone deposit.

These persons also collect cash as well as copies of documents such as ration cards from unsuspecting subscribers, the statement said.

BSNL clarified that it had not authorised any of its employees to do such campaigning. BSNL employees who visit customers' residences would be carrying an identity card, which can be demanded and verified.

It appealed to customers coming across impersonators to lodge a complaint with the local police and also inform the Vigilance Cell on 26425005.
