Rajdhani Express from New Delhi that was used by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., as a promotional vehicle for its 3G services, received a warm welcome when it arrived at Chennai Central on Saturday night.

Passengers of the ‘BSNL 3G Rajdhani Express' were presented with gifts to celebrate the joint venture of the BSNL and Southern Railway to create awareness of 3G services.

All coaches of the train were covered with special quality vinyl sheets carrying BSNL advertisements. A total of 25,000 sq. ft promotional material was stuck on the train. The BSNL also used the space available on table tops in compartments for promoting the 3G services.

BSNL Chennai Telephones Chief General Manager A.Subramanian said the campaign was aimed at reaching out to people directly.

The train connecting various places across the country was an apt medium to reach out to hundreds of people at the stations too.

The train was flagged off by Kuldeep Goel, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, on Friday from New Delhi. The six-month campaign is expected to cover 34 locations across 11 States.

A total of 471 node B base stations have been commissioned in Chennai and the entire Tamil Nadu is expected to be covered in six months. While about 40,000 3G connections have been given in Chennai, about 60,000 have been provided in others parts of the State.

He said consumers could enjoy many services, including local and STD video calls at 30 paise per minute and 2,000 free text messages as an introductory offer till June-end.

Anurag, Divisional Railway Manager, Southern Railway, said such promotional initiatives of the BSNL were conducted earlier in EMUs.

A live demonstration of the services was conducted for passengers at the station.
