Broadway parking lot plan shelved

July 26, 2013 08:04 am | Updated 08:04 am IST - CHENNAI:

A multi-level parking lot, which was earlier planned at Broadway, will not materialise as the Chennai Corporation had decided to drop the plan. The council is likely to pass a resolution in this regard on Friday.

The work order for construction of the parking lot in ward 59 had been issued to a private company. However, the project did not take off on account of Metro Rail work.

Over 176 sq. m. of land at the Broadway bus terminus and 888 sq. m. of land underground has been taken over for Metro Rail work. This has emerged as a stumbling block for the construction of the parking lot. The Corporation has decided to come up with an alternative design for the multi-level parking lot after the completion of the High Court Metro station.

The Corporation Council is also likely to pass a resolution to identify a new consultant. The parking lot is expected the address the problem of haphazard parking in the central business district.
