Penn Nalam, an initiative to educate, care, treat and counsel people about cancer, held a workshop on breast cancer on Saturday.

A book on the subject was also launched on the occasion. All About Breast Cancer , written by Selvi Radhakrishna was released by senior nephrologist M.K. Mani and the first copy was received by health secretary (principal) Girija Vaidyanathan.

Ms. Vaidhyanathan who delineated the government’s plans to set up regional cancer centres in Madurai and Coimbatore, said the way to go forward is to spread awareness and counsel people about the disease.

Dr. Selvi Radhakrishna, oncologist and co-founder of Penn Nalam, said the inspiration for writing the book were her patients, most of who were confused and shattered. “Many a time what the doctors tell them during consultation evaporates from their mind during those stress times.
