A 13-year-old boy fell to death while playing on the terrace of a three-storey house on Kalmandapam Road, Royapuram on Saturday evening. Relatives said he was suffering from malaria and had complained of giddiness after medication. This could have caused the accident.
Royapuram police sources identified the deceased as Prem Sai, a class VIII student at a private school in Royapuram. Sai was the second child of Rajendran, a supplier at an eatery in Washermenpet, and Angammal, who live in a small rented house on the second floor in Kalmandapam Road.
“Prem Sai was at home for the past couple of days as he was suffering from malaria and was under treatment. He often played alone on the terrace which has a parapet wall that is only 2.5 feet high. He was left unnoticed as his mother had gone out of station on Saturday,” the victim’s uncle Jayaram told The Hindu .
The boy allegedly slipped and fell to the ground through a cramped space between two buildings. His relatives and neighbours picked up the severely injured Sai and rushed him to a private hospital.
He was later admitted to the Government Stanley Hospital and succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night, Mr. Jayaram added.
A Royapuram police team carried out a preliminary probe and registered a case of unnatural death.
Following a post-mortem on Sunday morning, Sai’s body was handed over to his family members in the afternoon following which the last rites took place, police sources added.
