A 10-year-old boy, who fell from an escalator on the second floor of a shopping mall in Royapettah a few days ago, died on Friday.

The boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital where he died. The police said S. Naveen Kanna, a resident of Driver’s Colony in Korukkupet, went to the shopping mall with his sister S. Geetha, 22, residing in Madurai, on April 10.

Father seeks action

Naveen was standing near the escalator when his shoulder bag was stuck in the handrail of the escalator. He was thrown from the second floor to the ground floor, the police said.

The victim’s father R. Sanil Kumar, an autodriver, in his complaint to the Anna Salai Police Station blamed the security manager of the mall for not taking any preventive measure. He also wanted police to take action against the mall management. Based on the footage of the closed-circuit television cameras recovered from the mall, a case has been filed under Section 304(A) of the IPC, a senior police officer said.
