The book ‘Autism Arivom' in Tamil, authored by Consultant Neuro Physician Dr. A.V. Srinivasan, was released at M.O.P. Vaishnava College for Women on April 21.

The book was released by Justice S. Palanivelu, Madras High Court, Chennai. The first copy was received by G.A. Rajkumar, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Speaking on the occasion, Palanivelu said, “Autism is not a disease. It is an illness. The book contains a list of precautionary measures against autism. The book is everyone's read to prevent autism.”

G.A. Rajkumar said, “People should know about autism and the methods to be followed to tackle the peculiar nerve disorder. Parents should help children cope with disability and achieve great heighs in life.”

Dr. Nirmala Prasad, Principal, M.O.P. Vaishnava College for Women, appreciated the author and heaped praises for writing a book on Autism.

Story format

“A common man should know about Autism. The book is written in a simple language and each chapter is in a story-format. It is an extraordinary contribution from Dr. A.V. Srinivasan,” the principal said.

She appealed to the Indian authors to write medical journals in a simple style which can be easily understood.

C. Arokiasamy, Secretary, Cinema Theatres, Government of Tamil Nadu, said that the book is self-explanatory.

Jaya Arunachalam, President, Working Women's Forum (India), said, the book gives a detailed information on how to bring children with Autism.

Cartoonist Madan said that books on Autism are very rare. “We have scholars scientists and doctors, who possess very good knowledge and on the other side, writers, who can transform their ideas in a simple language. There is a gap between the writers and doctors which is the main reason why people find it difficult to understand a medical journal, he said.

Dr. A.V. Srinivasan said that the disability in children is caused by lack of language and social empathy due to the absence of mirror neuron component.

“The main objective of the book is to help the care-giver. Everyone should know about autism and take precautionary measures against the illness,” he added.
