After an anonymous bomb threat to Saravana Stores in Ranganathan Street, T. Nagar, on Saturday, hundreds of shoppers and staff were evacuated from the outlet. The call turned out to be a hoax.
“We are trying to trace the call,” said Assistant Police Commissioner A.P. Selvan.
At 11.37 a.m., the store received the first call, warning of the entire T. Nagar area getting blown up. Sometime later, the caller dialled again and threatened to blow up the store. The management immediately informed the police.
A police team evacuated the shoppers and other employees under the pretext of an income tax search.
After the evacuation, the bomb detection and disposal squad was pressed into service.
The six-storey building was searched for nearly two hours. After a thorough search, the police confirmed that the call was a hoax.
