The body of Suresh Sha (33) of Kancheepuram, who died in the boat tragedy in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 26, washed ashore on the island on Thursday.

According official sources, island fishermen noticed the body lying on the shore in the morning and informed the authorities. An identification card and mobile phone found in the shirt pocket helped the officials ascertain that the body belonged to Suresh Sha, who drowned in the sea on Sunday, when a boat carrying tourists capsized because it was overloaded.

Later, the body was flown to Chennai and from there, taken to Kancheepuram by road and handed over to the relatives, sources said.

MP’s request

Meanwhile, Kancheepuram MP, P. Viswanathan has sent a letter to District Collector, K. Baskaran requesting him to submit the necessary documents related to the death of 15 persons hailing from Kancheepuram town to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary.

This is to forward the same to the Union Government so that relief may be sanctioned from the National Relief Fund.
