With a tender to award the contract for conservancy operation in four zones likely to be floated next week, the Chennai Corporation held a meeting of prospective bidders on Friday.
Representatives of five companies shared their views on the performance evaluation benchmarks and penalty clauses that are likely to be part of the new bid document.
The companies that sent their representatives to the meeting include Onyx, IL&FS, Kivar, Ramky and Srinivasa.
The government has permitted the Corporation to terminate the contract with Neel Metal Fanalca (NMF) in parts of the city on December 31.
The civic body is likely to strictly enforce penalty clauses after performance evaluation using photographic documentation of garbage collection in localities.
Officials of the civic body would strictly monitor and make the photographs of conservancy operations publicly available.
The new company is likely to be entrusted with the task of garbage clearance in Zone III (Pulianthope), Zone VI (Triplicane), Zone VIII (Kodambakkam) and Zone V (Adyar).
The government had also given its nod for floating bids for carrying out a seven-year-long contract beginning January 1, 2012.
The NMF began garbage clearance work in the Ice House, Kodambakkam and Adyar zones in August 2007 and in Pulianthope from April 2008.
The Corporation council had adopted a resolution in May 2010 expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of the company and recommended for a gradual withdrawal of the operation by NMF.
In the period from June to August 2010, the Corporation gradually took over garbage clearance in select wards.
