An attempt to attack BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan at Singaperumalkoil on Sunday was foiled by the party workers and the accused was handed over to the police.

The incident took place at 9 p.m. when Ms. Soundararajan was addressing a meeting organised to thank the the Centre for setting up the Cauvery Water Management Authority and sanctioning a AIIMS facility for the State (to come up at Madurai).

Verbal abuse

As she was making some references to the DMK, the Congress and the PMK and speaking about how they had not made any fruitful efforts to bring the facility to Tamil Nadu, a lungi-clad middle-aged person climbed the platform and moved menacingly towards her. He also abused her using unparliamentary words.

However, he was overpowered by the party cadres and was brought down from the dais. Later, he was handed over to the police. While talking to media persons, Ms. Tamilisai condemned the police for not being agile.
