Pedestrians taking the Tambaram Sanatorium flyover and the service lanes complain of lack of illumination.

As the light emanating from the lamp posts on the overpass and on the service lanes near the flyover is not sufficient, cyclists and pedestrians tend to avoid the stretch on grounds of safety.

The light from the commercial establishments near Tambaram Sanatorium railway station is the only solace for the pedestrians proceeding towards Sundaram Colony, Jaya Nagar and Vedantam Nagar.

P. Vishwanthan, a resident of Chitlapakkam, said, “Commuting through the overpass after sunset is a nightmare for motorists. A few reckless motorists indulge in speeding.”

Earlier, when there was enough light on the stretch, motorists would take the overpass to reach East Tambaram, Chromepet, Hasthinapuram, Chitlapakkam, Camp Road from Grand Southern Trunk Road. But now, they are forced to take a detour through Grand Southern Trunk Road, West Tambaram flyover, Velachery Main Road and Bharatha Matha Street, to reach the neighbourhood.

Though there are streetlights on both sides of the overpass, facing the service lanes, at several points, the lights do not provide enough illumination.
