Be more proactive, Stalin tells TN

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:54 am IST - CHENNAI:

The DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, on Thursday, said serious doubts have emerged on the version of the Andhra Pradesh police that they acted in self-defence when they gunned down 20 persons from Tamil Nadu for allegedly chopping red sanders in Seshachalam last month.

In a statement, he said call records of some of the victims leading to the fateful day indicate that they were travelling most of that time during which they were alleged to have illegally chopped down the trees.

“Severe torture marks on the bodies of the victims contradict the claim of the Andhra Pradesh police that they were acting in self-defence. I urge the Tamil Nadu state government to implead itself in the cases and ensure a speedy and fair trial,” the statement said.
