To commemorate World Development Information Day, SSI Development Society in association with St. John Ambulance, Ambattur Local Centre, organised an awareness programme at Mannurpet. Workers from various industries and residents of Padi, Mannurpet, Korattur, Mogappair and Ambattur participated in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated by R.A. Mohamed Kamal, President, SSI Development Society and District Chairman.

He said that in 1972, United Nation General Assembly declared October 24 as World Development Information Day.

Strengthening cooperation

The day was instituted with an objective to draw worldwide public attention towards developmental issues and to strengthen the international cooperation to solve them.

He also said that the programme provides an opportunity for youngsters to come up with suggestions that might solve challenges to development.

Modern technology

Mr. Kamal said that modern information technologies such as the Internet and cellular phones have become vital tools in alerting people to issues such as poverty eradication.

Anthony Xavier, Lecturer, St. John Ambulance, spoke about the importance of the day. B. Nazeem, secretary; A. Ibrahim, treasurer; L. Krishnaveni, administrative officer; and R.A. Kalimullah, training coordinator, St. John Ambulance, Ambattur Local Centre, were present during the programme. S. Pattabiraman Manager, SSI Development Society, proposed a vote of thanks.
