A 57-year-old bank employee was found strangled to death at his Velachery residence on Thursday morning. Police suspect his friends had murdered him in a drunken brawl.

The victim Nagaraj, assistant manager of a nationalised bank based in Besant Nagar, was found strangled to death at his duplex apartment on the first floor. His mother, Kamala (87) resides on the ground floor.

Police sources said three men had come to the house around 9 p.m. on Wednesday and left at around 11 p.m.. On Thursday morning, Kamala went up to the first floor to find her son dead.

Whisky bottles were found in the room. A belt, suspected to have been used to strangulate Nagaraj, was found in the bathroom. The victim’s cellphone, motorcycle and some cash from the room are missing, sources added.
