In an environment-friendly move, a resolution seeking to ban one-time use-and-throw plastics will be placed before the Chennai Corporation Council that would meet on April 29, Mayor M.Subramanian said on Saturday.
Speaking at the 136th ‘Varumun Kappom' camp in Triplicane, he said that the resolution would also seek a ban on drinking water sachets containing substandard water, which caused a lot of health problems.
Plastic bags with less than 20 micron thickness needed to be banned as they led to clogging of stormwater drains and sewer pipes.
For government consideration
Mr. Subramanian said the resolution would be sent to the State government for its consideration.
In the camps held at 30 locations in the city, special attention was given to seasonal ailments.
Tests for ailments relating to eye and ENT and tests for diabetes, blood pressure and heart ailments were conducted.
