A three-month old baby girl, who was found abandoned in Pammal last month, is now in the care of a welfare home in St. Thomas Mount.
According to members of the Kancheepuram District Child Welfare Committee, residents of the Andal Kuppam area noticed the girl baby in thorny bushes on January 14. Shahul Hameed, a resident, called up Childline (1098). Representatives of Childline took the baby to All Women Police Station in Tambaram, where a girl missing case was registered. The girl was then handed over to a welfare home in St. Thomas Mount under the supervision of the Kancheepuram District Child Welfare Committee, said Zahiruddin Mohammed, its member. So far, none had come to claim the girl at Shankar Nagar, Pallavaram or even the Tambaram All Women Police Stations.
They did not disclose the name of the welfare home fearing unwanted calls or visitors. Even the telephone calls the members had received so far were for requests for adoption of the baby girl. None had called them claiming to be the child's parents, Mr. Zahiruddin Mohammed added. Mr. Mohammed can be reached at 94456 28414.
