March 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Alumni Association members of Madras Christian College (MCC), Tambaram met the principal of the college, Alexander Jesudasan, on Tuesday, to express their displeasure at the chopping of trees on campus. They submitted demands aimed at ensuring that trees in the campus would not be cut indiscriminately. One of their demands is to form a sustainability committee to regulate construction and sensitise the college authorities on environmental issues. They also sought a detailed land use policy.

Environmental activist and former student of MCC, V.Srinivasan said students and alumni across the country are worried about the increasing loss of tree cover in the campus. Mr. Alexander Jesudasan assured the members that the minutes of the meeting would be put up before the governing body for a decision.
