Eminent personalities in various fields received the Society of Auditors Excellence Award here on Friday. Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan presented the awards to R. Ranga Rao (special teaching achievements), Kimsuka Narasimhan (business entrepreneurship), V. Seevathson (drama), Nirmala Prasad (education and women empowerment), Ramamani Ravi (service to special children), G. Subramanian (professional integrity) and P. Venkatesan (music).
In a period of “trust deficit faced by the corporate world,” the most essential trait of an auditor is independence, said Mr. Narasimhan. He stressed the need for investment in research to cope with challenges faced by auditors in the days to come. The Society of Auditors should constantly try to adopt the latest international principles and practices, he added. “The ethics your community is practising is of high order. It is not your job to evade tax,” said Mr. Narasimhan, who launched the 80th year celebrations of the Society of Auditors.
On Saturday, a seminar will be held on topics such as chartered accountant’s role in managing great companies, chartered accountant’s role in unearthing corporate frauds and financial reporting and chartered accountant’s role in building great financial institutions and planning investments, said president of the executive committee P. Anand.
