December 30, 2013 09:20 am | Updated 09:20 am IST - CHENNAI:

A 55-year-old private security guard died after he was assaulted by his colleague outside an ATM kiosk belonging to a nationalised bank in Kottivakkam.

The Neelankarai police said, the victim, Subramani, who was an alcoholic, had come to the Kottivakkam kiosk on Thursday evening to meet his manager and discuss some dues. They had an argument, following which another guard, Soundararajan (53), a resident of Kottivakkam, intervened. The guards got into an argument which soon snowballed into a fistfight. Subramani grabbed a stone to attack Soundararajan while the latter knocked him down with a baton.

Subramani suffered head injuries and was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening. Soundararajan was arrested by the Neelankarai police and booked for murder. He was remanded to custody.

Subramani, a native of Kancheepuram and a resident of Nungambakkam, was working with a private security agency and was posted at the kiosk in Kottivakkam a few months ago. He was recently transferred to another kiosk in Anna Salai, police sources said.
