A whale of a time awaits seafood lovers at the four-day ‘Tanfish 2013’ that will begin at Island Grounds here on May 9.
Though the festival comes in the middle of the 45-day fishing ban season, arrangements have been made for bringing fresh catch, using country craft.
Popular sea food delicacies from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka will be on offer at the food court.
A press release here said the theme of the festival is ‘Fish for Health’. There will also be live demos by chefs on preparation of recipes that use fresh water and sea fish.
This is the first time the State Fisheries Department is organising a fish fest. The event will have something for everyone involved in fisheries, including those in the aquaculture industry.
The festival would be held in a half-a-kilometre long, centrally airconditioned dome. Consultancy will be offered for budding entrepreneurs and there will be video shows on farming systems and success stories.
With Chennai being a major hub for ornamental fish culture, there will also be an aquarium gallery with over 300 kinds of ornamental fish displayed in 70 aquariums. Visitors to the show can purchase aquariums, fish, plants and other accessories.
The exhibition will be on from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and entry will require tickets.
For children aged below 10 years, the fee will be Rs. 10 and for adults, Rs. 20.
