The 17-year-old was beaten up by four drunk men as he had refused to buy them beedis

A 17-year-old boy who was brutally assaulted by four drunken men on October 20, died at a hospital on Monday night.

Thoraipakkam police said the victim, Manikandan of Kallukuttai in Perungudi, was a construction worker.

On October 20, he was intercepted by four men near his home, when he was on his way back from work. The men asked Manikandan to get buy them a pack of beedis. The teenager refused. Incensed, the men assaulted him and left him injured on the road. His family found him, and admitted him to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment. However, he was severely injured and failed to respond to treatment, police said.

Thoraipakkam police have changed the case from assault to murder, and have arrested two men, identified as Ottai Viji (23) and Venkatesan (24) both from Kannagi Nagar. A hunt is on for the two others.
