Police suspect the three committed suicide partly due to poverty
The decomposed bodies of a 65-year-old woman and her two daughters were found in their home in Kodungaiyur on Friday morning. Police suspect the three committed suicide due to poverty and because of the loss of another member of the family.
According to police, Vasantha (65), wife of C. Thyagarajan, was a resident of 10 street, MGR Nagar, Kodungaiyur. She separated from her husband around five years ago. She had two daughters Geetha, who was a singer in an orchestra and Gajalakshmi (34) who worked in a private firm. Her third daughter Kalyani, died of jaundice four months ago.
The three were depressed over Kalyani’s death and the impoverished life they were leading. The police suspect that four days ago, the trio closed the both the front and back doors of the house they were living in, and then consumed poison.
On Friday, a neighbour who was passing the house, detected an odour and informed a local political leader, Balu.
Balu lodged a police complaint and a team of police officials went to the home. “We had to break into the house to recover the bodies and send them for post-mortem examinations,” said a police officer.
Meanwhile, another mother and daughter ended their lives by hanging in their house in Kodungaiyur on Friday. According to police, Murugesa Mani (35), was the wife of Saravanan (40), who runs a grocery store. They had three children, Yamuna Devi (10), Adhivel and Muneeshwaran.
Murugesa Mani suspected her husband’s fidelity, and often quarrelled with him.
