A team of officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a deputy area engineer of Chennai Metrowater on Saturday on charges of taking a bribe.

A press release from the Directorate said that Rajan (56), deputy area engineer at Velachery, was arrested on the basis of a complaint from Kuppusamy, a building contractor.

Rajan was accused of demanding a bribe of Rs. 1.30 lakh to provide water supply and sewerage connection to a residential complex that Kuppusamy was constructing at Sankar Nagar, Velachery. Rajan was caught red-handed on Saturday evening when he accepted the bribe from the contractor.
