Four persons, including a school correspondent, have been arrested in connection with the death of a six-year-old girl in Chennai, police said.
The girl was run over by the rear wheels of her schoolbus, after she slipped through a hole on the floor of the vehicle, at Mudichur near Tambaram on Wednesday.
Besides the correspondent, those arrested include the bus driver and two others. All of them have been remanded to judicial custody.
The school has been closed down today.

please take care about the highways laid road also because the road laid by highways were the holes may be on road it is too dangerous for people who use two wheeler and the next one is near mars hotel on way to pammal tere isd also being like that for around 2 years no one is carying about that all
Sir,
It is corruption which has killed the child. Fitness certificates are simply sold by the RTO and the entire gang at RTO are vicariously liable and responsible for the cruel death of this child. It is money money and money for the Government officials. They sell Driving Licences, they sell Fitness Certificates, they sell vehicle transfer certificates and one of these days they will sell the RTO office itself. If the money is good enough they would even sell their parents.
Who gave No Objection Certificate from the government? That particular individual
should be put in jail.
Who allowed operating the bus from the school authorities? THey should be in Jail.
The bus operating company. Company should be closed and people behind should
be put in jail.
By burning the bus, the stupid mob erased all of the evidence. This is India!
this unfortunate incident is purely because of our negligence and unawareness on safety of passengers.we also pull that officer into
police custody who is one of the reason for this accident.
The Action should be take atleast till Ministers level, Not alone with blame accepting labours. Defintely it will example setter for all.
While stern action needs to be taken on the bus driver and school management for
using a bad bus, what about the hundreds of accidents that State government buses
are involved in every day. The conditions of State government buses are even more
pathetic and create bodily pain to many more commuters. Who is responsible for the
state of affairs when State Government buses are involved. While we want the school
bus driver and school authorities to be arrested, we cannot lay a finger on the
Government bus unions and government authorities in the transport department. We
have different rules for private sector and government sector?
How exactly is the bus driver or conductor responsible for this? I bet they would do nothing about the condition of the bus. The first person to be arrested should be the guy who approved the fitness certificate.
why are the authorities always reactive? what are the standards for
school buses? may the girls soul RIP.
on future..india will become no 1 corruption country.........this is very sad for hearing this news...some public authority peoples not care about the life of peoples ...they want only money..such that they play games with life of peoples....when india will change???
Anger is fine..but burning the bus is not going to help matters, it
destroyed an important evidence. The govt should establish standards for
school buses and school students should be transported only in
designated authorized vehicles whether it is school buses or privately
operated. Separate category of license should be there for school bus
drivers and not all drivers should be allowed, only experienced drivers
without any accident history should be licensed to drive school buses or
vehicles that transport students.
BY burning the vehicle the crucial evidence has been destroyed and that is enough for the corrupt officials who have given road worthiness certificate , to get away and walk free.
Even during such provocative situation one has to demonstrate restraint and act calmly and sensibly.
Why only action against School and Bus operator? Shouldn't the local RTO who gave the bus it's FC (Fitness Certificate) be held first accused in this case? How the hell did he give a FC for this death-trap of a bus?
Yes, how about the brake inspector and RTO who certified this bus as fit?
money minded govt. officials and school, Jayalalilatha madam why dont you take action against the vehicle inspection / transportation officer. Madam its not just the defective school buses, its your govt. officials who give permission for such buses to run on road ?
really sad and depressed to hear this, a life has gone. May almighty bless their parents to bear this huge loss.
inna lillahi wa inna ilahi rajiyoon. (Verily we belong to God, and to God we return).
By burning the school bus, the evidence is destroyed. Authorities will be handicapped if there are no evidences to pin point the cause of the freek accident. They now have eye witnesses to investigate the incident. No one would want a death of a child like this. It's so tragic. People should control their anger and protect public property.
This is all because of bribery start from the vehicle fitness authority till the school management.
Yes I Agree with Uday. The responsibility of Brake Inspector plays a
major role here.
The school authorities should not be allowed to absolve their responsibilities by shifting the blame to the operator of the leased bus. As in industries, the responsibility for safety lies with the primary employer, in thie case, with the school management.
The real culprits are the RTO officials who issued the certificate, the driver and the bus attender.
it is really so sad news. though the School Authorities are concentrating only on Money mind. otherwise they will not take adequte resposibilities for whom children starting from Home to till School reach. so that the bus incharge people should check properly before start bus even after droped the schoold children. because childrens are depend on the adults. no one else to take care of the child in Schools. even Management are treating the child as prisoner. please do not expecting Schoold bus facilities. Kindly requested to the parents please you should take care of your responsibilities.
The concerned agency to have permitted the bus with fitness should be
made to cough up the compensation from his pocket and dismiss him from
service summarily after preliminary inquiry
What about the responsibility of the school which leased out the vehicle to be operated as school bus?
Govt should order closure of the school and action to be taken against all the management staff of the school, inspection officials who periodically assesses the school and the brake inspector.
Preventive law enforcement is necessary for minimizing injury and death rather than
solatium and police action after tragedy has struck. Low cost transport alone should
not be the concern of parents. They must put the safety of their children first.
How about the Brake Inspector who certifited the fitness of the Vehicle ??
Why was the RTO official who gave the FC for this bus not arrested? He has to be brought to justice along with the school authorities. This is not the only school which is operating unsafe buses; most of the school buses running in TN are not fit to run in the roads.
Also, almost all schools overload their buses with kids. In a 28-seater, normally they load 72 kids.
It is a heart breaking incident. However, vandalizing public property won't bring her life back. Instead, make the govt. responsible for allowing such buses to ply in the city, moreover as school buses. Proper overhaul of public transport is needed for every state.
It is indeed an inconsolable death caused by arrogance and negligence.
The CM should ACT swiftly and punish the concerned RTO and recover the monetary compensation of at least INR 1 Crore both from the school and the RTO so that it serves as a deterrent to other schools and RTOs.
Also the Govt should carry out a "clean-up' operation in all RTOs across the state and sack ALL the corrupt RTO employees whose GREED is SOLELY responsible for this kind of deaths.
The Govt should also order that all School Buses should not ply without one conductor in addition to the driver. In case of violation, the Bus owners / Principal/Correpondent of the concerned School should be ARRESTED and put behind bars at least for one day.
This will send out a clear message to all concerned.
The concerned govt regional transport official who checked and issued fc should be arrested and detained from his services without mercy. Then only will all other government officials come to know of the consequence of their bribes, like the one that killed a child today.
Such a sorrowful incident. But I was not surprised when I read "there was a hole in the floor" because the school bus I used had the same problem, and I used that bus for 7 years. Schools are well known to collect "donations" but no idea what they do with it.
Setting fire to the bus is not going to bring back a precious life. The school authorities as well as RTO officials are equally responsible for the tragedy. One can see eight to ten kids, some sitting next to the driver, commuting to school in an auto. Parents have no choice. Government should consider running special buses at peak hours just for school-going kids. Also, should provide guards at school crossings. States collect VAT taxes on petrol and part of the tax revenue is to be used for school buses and guards.
Is no one from the RTA and the transport ministry accountable?
Shocking. Chief Minister's prompt action is commendable yet will be complete only if suitable criminal action is initiated. The erring road transport licensing authorities, which alone will send the right message.
It is a serious matter. If a a six year old could slip through the hole on the floor of
the bus, it must be quite a big hole. The administrative officer in charge for engaging
such a bus (whether owned by the school authorities or contracted) should be held
more responsible than the driver for the unfortunate fatal incident. I don't know the
role of a "correspondent". Poor quality buses should be taken off immediately from
the roads, especially school buses. It is really sad that in our country an incident like
this must occur to initiate corrective action.
This is yet another instance of mere RECKLESSNESS in administration by
an Educational Institution. When they can concentrate on the fees to
be paid by the students, why can't the school administration look into
things like these which has now cost the life of an innocent girl.
Things like these happen now and then but what have we learnt??.
Accusing the administration is of no use. Why can't the parents look
into things like these. They think that they duty is over once their
child is sent to school. Why can't they look into things like these??
Even a periodical check now and then could have saved a girl's life.
Unless and until the citizenry is vigilant enough thinks like these
will continue to happen.
