The death of a four-year-old girl, Farhana, under mysterious circumstances, at her home in Vyasarpadi on Monday, is now being investigated by MKB Nagar police.

On Monday afternoon, Farhana’s mother, Mamta, found the child unconscious with blood oozing out of her nose and mouth. Mamata and her family rushed Farhana to a private hospital and later to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, but GH doctors said she was brought dead.

The family took the child’s body away and tried to conduct the last rites at a cemetery on Tuesday morning. However, a person in-charge at the cemetery informed police, who took the child’s body and sent it for a post-mortem examination to Government Stanley Hospital.

“Preliminary reports on the child’s death say there are internal injuries especially on the liver possibly suffered due to a fall as a result of being pushed. However, we are waiting for the final report to ascertain whether this was an accidental death or murder,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police, (in-charge of MKB Nagar), P. Loganathan.
