A 21-year old youngster who mimicked the voice of Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi (wife of producer and actor Udhayanidhi Stalin) and impersonated her brother to cheat an aspiring film director was arrested by the officers attached to the Triplicane police station on Sunday. According to police, Dinesh (23) was arrested based on a complaint by Kumaresan alias Maurin. The complainant lives in Puzhal and has been desperate to get into movies.
Kumaresan expressed his desire to his cousin Robert. His cousin told him that he had met Kiruthiga Udayanidhi’s brother in Tiruchendur and handed over a mobile number to Kumaresan.
He called up the number and the person (Dinesh) who attended the call introduced himself as Mrs. Kiruthiga’s brother and said his name was Inbanidhi. Kumaresan began to call him often and sometimes Dinesh would speak in Ms. Kiruthiga’s voice too. When Kumaresan visited him, he found that there were lot of pictures of Dinesh with leading DMK politicians including M. Karunanidhi.
On June 16, Dinesh promised to make Kumaresan the director, but asked him to give a loan of Rs 1 lakh promising to return it in two days. But Kumaresan told him that he had only Rs.50,000 and gave him the money. Dinesh asked him not to tell Mrs. Kiruthiga about the deal.
Kumaresan wondered why such rich people should borrow money from him. When Kumaresan asked him to return the money, Dinesh refused. Kumaresan lodged a complaint with the Triplicane police after Dinesh threatened him twice.
Dinesh was arrested and brought to Triplicane police station for interrogation. Police sources state that Dinesh hails from Trichy. “The photos found in the office have been pasted together.” said a police officer.
According to S. Senthil Kumaran , assistant commissioner of police, Triplicane. Dinesh used to mimic the voice of Ms. Kiruthiga and has fooled many DMK cadres. “After the lending of the money occurred, Robert came to realised the man posing as Inbanidhi was a fraud and alerted Kumaresan. He had seen an advertisement in the news paper warning about such frauds,” said an officer.
