Rotary Club of Madras (Vadapalani) conducted the “Community Service Projects and Presentation of Awards” function on June 18, to honour meritorious students, visually impaired students among them. The uniqueness of this event was in its awards, which were tributes rather than products of community service. The Chief Guest for the event was Rtn. PDG.P.T. Prabhakar, R.I. Director 2013-15.
The programme, true to its spirit, started off with mellifluous vocal performances by visually impaired students. V. Shyamala, who also gave a performance, is the only visually impaired woman Rotarian who sponsors three visually impaired girl students every year. Rtn. The Rotary Club’s recent initiative of adopting the Ward. This was followed by presentation of thirteen Braille dictionaries to the School for the Blind (Poonamallee) by Rtn.V. Shyamala. Eighty five students from the Little Flower Convent for the blind, deaf and dumb, Chennai Corporation Higher Secondary School, Virugambakkam, P.S.B.B.S.S.S. K.K.Nagar and the St. Joseph's College were awarded for their outstanding academic performances.
