Police are questioning a man and his wife in connection with the murder of two elderly sisters at their home in West Mambalam on May 11 last year. The duo is suspected to have incited three minors to strangle the women.

The children were recently nabbed by the police and a part of the victims' jewellery was seized from them.

Jayalakshmi (75) and her sister Kamakshi (72) were found dead at their residence on K.R. Koil Street last year. Police said they died of suffocation as their faces were covered with a cloth. Kamakshi also suffered broken ribs.

A special team was later formed to solve the case and a fresh probe is underway.

Police suspect that the detained woman worked as the domestic maid in the house when the murder took place. “But after the murder, the woman and her husband went missing. So they are being interrogated,” a source said.

Police have made a headway in the case nearly a year after the murder.

However, the investigating team refused to confirm the detention of the couple.
