All the witnesses examined so far said that they had seen the boy run, carrying a knife
On Tuesday a total of nine witnesses deposed before the 20 Metropolitan Magistrate I. Jayanthi, who is in-charge of the Juvenile Justice Board, in the case pertaining to the murder of schoolteacher Uma Maheswari, allegedly by a student of the school in north Chennai, in February this year.
According to sources close to the investigation, seven witnesses including her colleagues and the boy's classmates deposed on Monday. Statements of a total of 100 witnesses are to be recorded in the case. Members of the Juvenile Justice Board also attended the hearing.
When the case was taken up for hearing last week, the 16-year-old boy denied having committed the crime. All the witnesses examined so far said that they had seen the boy run, carrying a knife, sources said.
A student of class IX, the boy had allegedly slashed Ms. Maheswari's neck and stabbed her several times in the stomach as he was upset for being reprimanded by the teacher for not doing well in his studies.
The teacher had been teaching science and Hindi for close to a decade at the St. Mary's Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School on Armenian Street in Parry's Corner.
